MSc in Global Innovation Management?

Duration: 2 years
Course description:
Successful management of the innovation process is essential for any business wanting to stay ahead of the competition.
The 2-year MSc in Global Innovation Management (GIM) will equip students with the skills needed to transform research outputs into innovative products and services for worldwide markets. It also provides a unique opportunity to test these skills internationally as part of the study programme.

GIM addresses new challenges in innovative global enterprise and provides:

A practical and global perspective of Innovation Management

Skills applicable for larger multinational organisations to smaller enterprises

Expanded perspectives of Innovation Management including Technology Management, R&D, and Product/Service Development with focus on the interface between disciplines involved in the process;

Increased research capability focused on activities at the periphery of the innovation process.

All students take a common first year at the University of Strathclyde, then choose either to deepen study at Hamburg University of Technology (Germany), or to apply skills and knowledge in an industrial internship at Aalborg University (Denmark).

The course is structured as follows:

Semesters 1 and 2 (Year One) provides a strong foundation in the Innovation Management process, with essential practical experience of working within global teams and with an industrial client on product/service development briefs. Strategic technology management, manufacturing business strategy and supply chain

management are also a central focus.

Semester 3 at Hamburg looks at early and late phases of the innovation management process. It concentrates on market research for (radical) innovation, cross functional cooperation at the front end of the innovation process, managing innovation projects over geographical and functional/divisional boarders and preparing the market introduction of new products and services.

Semester 3 at Aalborg is an industrial internship providing the students with global innovation management work experience consolidating the knowledge and skills obtained at Strathclyde. Students will deliver a relevant and theoretically supported project to the host Danish company.

In Semester 4 all students take a thesis project supervised jointly between academics at the host institution and another partner institution.

The programme is delivered in English and intended for excellent graduates of first degrees in Engineering, Science and Technology. The MSc award is made jointly by the University of Strathclyde and the secondyear institution. Graduates, supported by a network of valuable contacts, enter the international employment
market working:

With enterprises dealing with high end technological products and services

as consultants making technology assessment and innovation /change management

with governmental institutes dealing with innovation policy and strategy

with relevant research and higher education institutions.

Vacant PhD scholarships at CBS, Denmark

If you are among the top students in your field, and you are interested in acquiring research skills at a very high level, the three-year PhD programme at CBS may be for to you. The programme allows you to conduct research within a topic of your own choice under the supervision of CBS professors, and supported by research training courses. The programme is highly international, and you are expected to participate in international research conferences and spend time abroad as a visiting PhD student.

See the CBS homepage for more information about the PhD programme:http://uk.cbs.dk/phd .

CBS PhD graduates are held in high esteem not only in academia and research institutions but also in government and business where their research qualifications are increasingly demanded. Two thirds of CBS PhD graduates go on to employment outside universities and public research institutions.

CBS now invites applications for PhD scholarships. The scholarships are fully salaried positions, according to the national Danish collective agreement.

The scholarship includes the tuition fees, office space, travel grants plus a salary, currently starting with per month app. DKK 23,370 (app. 3,100 euro) up to DKK 28,477 (app. 3,800 euro) depending on seniority, a monthly non- pensionable allowance (app. 165 euro) plus a pension contribution equivalent to 17,1 per cent on 85 per cent of the base salary.

Your application should include a research proposal that addresses a topic within the CBS research profile. CBS covers all of the classic fields within business economics and business languages connected with the management and operation of public and private organizations – for example, marketing, finance, accounting, organization and translation. In addition, research is carried out in a number of subjects important for the understanding of the challenges firms face in the global knowledge society. These include not only business law, informatics, innovation, international economics, inter-cultural understanding, communication and media research, but also business oriented research in such fields as philosophy, political science, design, anthropology, and history. Please consult the CBS homepage (http://uk.cbs.dk/forskning_viden) for further information about the research topics of CBS.

Closing date: Friday 2 October 2009 at 12.00 noon

Further information can be obtained from the CBS Office of PhD Education, e-mail phdadmission@cbs.dk. Potential applicants are encouraged to identify a preferred department for their PhD studies and contact this department well in advance the closing date in order to develop a research proposal. (Please note that Dan- ish holidays are generally taken in July).

PhD Scholarship 2009. The Centre for Language Technology, under the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen, is inviting applications for a PhD scholarship in Language Technology starting 1 February, 2010 for a period of up to three years. The PhD scholar will be jointly associated with the Centre for Language Technology and the Department of Computer Science, both at the University of Copenhagen.

The PhD scholarship is announced within the interdisciplinary research area of Information Technology and Language, which combines knowledge in computer science with knowledge of linguistics. Large collections of written or spoken corpora are currently being developed for a large group of languages, including Danish. Tagged corpora make it possible to train machine learning algorithms and other statistical models which are able to extract different kinds of knowledge from language data.

This knowledge may concern syntactic or semantic information at word level, for example parts of speech or meaning in a given context. Or it can relate to syntactic structure – how to assign constituent or dependency structure to phrases. Finally, it may concern the content of written or spoken corpora, which is generally defined and represented in very different ways depending on the model and the purpose.

The PhD project should focus on one or more of these aspects of knowledge extraction, and the PhD scholar should relate to relevant language technology applications, for instance development of lexical resources (computational lexicons and wordnets), grammar in relation to parsing or statistically-based machine translation, knowledge extraction for expert systems or training of response types in adaptive dialogue systems. For further information see:

Technical University of Denmark offers PhD Scholarship – Structural Modelling of Wind Turbine Blades, Department of Mechanical Engineering. 1 PhD scholarship is available at the Department of Mechanical Engineering as soon as possible. Do you want to start a global career with a challenging job that makes a real difference? Do you want to develop innovative tools for future design of intelligent wind turbine blades?

The project
This project is motivated by the vision of being able to provide passive control of the dynamic behavior of wind turbine blades by utilizing the anisotropic properties of composite materials in an intelligent manner. To obtain this vision, one of the main building blocks needed is a general, fully coupled and validated beam element. Also needed are effective and exact methods for determination of stiffness and mass coefficients for such a beam element based on 3D geometry and material data for the blade. The purpose of this Ph.D. project is to develop such a fully coupled beam element.

The fully coupled beam element can be used in aeroelastic calculations to design the structure in order to reduce loading on the blade. Modern pitch-regulating wind turbines use control systems to reduce the blade loads. However, these systems are too slow to react to sudden wind changes. There is therefore high interest in building active or passive control systems into the blades to reduce especially fatigue loads. Passive systems are much more robust with respect to operation interruptions and it is desirable to use the anisotropic material properties for composites to optimize the load reduction behavior of the blades.
The Ph.D. project is part of a larger project supported by the Danish Energy Research Programme (EFP). The Ph.D. project is also partly supported by Vestas Wind Systems A/S, one of the worlds leading wind turbine companies.
