IRENA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – Information for applicants In an effort to promote talented academics, and with the generous support of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, IRENA is awarding up to 20 scholarships at Abu Dhabi based MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology.

The Programme extends to the eight Master of Science Programmes offered at MASDAR Institute. All IRENA scholars are entitled to generous benefits and are offered IRENA’s exclusive Lecture Programme, which will provide IRENA’s scholars with an overview of the current state of renewable energies.

In the following text, interested students can find all necessary information and specifics or useful links to further sources that explain the MSc Programmes, entry requirements and the selection process. Extensive information can be retrieved from IRENA’s and MASDAR Institute’s websites. In general IRENA advises interested students to study MASDAR Institute’s ‘Student Academic Handbook’.

Applicants for IRENA’s Scholarship Programme, will be admitted in accordance to the academic standards and regulations of Masdar Institute. Out of those who passed, IRENA will select the winning candidates in accordance with additional criteria that can be found on the following pages or on IRENA’s website.

IRENA MSc Scholars are required to join a renewable energy related research project for the duration of their scholarships. When taking up study, during orientation week, MASDAR Institute will inform all new students about the current research projects. Out of these projects IRENA scholars shall select a renewable energy related topic.

Moreover, the final thesis shall be written on a renewable energy related topic as well. While IRENA scholars will benefit from the additional services offered by IRENA, they still must adhere to MASDAR Institute’s policies and procedures, as set out in the Student Academic Handbook.

Scholarship Programme:

IRENA scholarships in 8 MSc Programmes available Chemical Engineering, Computing and Information Science, Electrical Power Engineering, Engineering Systems and Management, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Water and Environmental Engineering.

Who Can Apply:

• Individuals with outstanding academic record who completed their undergraduate studies (or near completion) in a relevant field Eligible students have to comply with entry requirements defined by the MASDAR Institute:
• Relevant undergraduate degree from a college, university or technical college of acceptable standing in the field of science, engineering or information technology Academic record and credentials must indicate the ability to achieve distinction The minimum CGPA required is 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.
• Competence in spoken and written English. The minimum TOEFL score required is 91 (IBT) on the international TOEFL. The TOEFL can only be waived for native English speakers.
• The minimum academic IELTS score required is 6.5. The minimum GRE quantitative score required is 700. There is no cut-off score for the verbal and analytical part, but these scores are also important and evaluated. The GRE exam cannot be waived.

Full Scholarships for Graduate Study at MASDAR Institute in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology at Carbon Neutral, Zero Waste City

The MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi is pleased to announce full scholarships to highly qualified graduate students from around the world for its Fall 2010 intake.

The MASDAR Institute is the centerpiece of the MASDAR Initiative, a landmark program by the government of Abu Dhabi to establish an entirely new economic sector dedicated to alternative and sustainable energy. The MASDAR Institute is a private, not-for-profit, independent, research-driven institute developed with the support and cooperation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). MIT provides assistance in recruitment of faculty members and senior administrative staff and the provision of course curriculum, amongst other matters. The Institute is located inside the world’s first carbon neutral, zero waste Masdar City, which will be powered solely by alternative energy, mainly solar energy. Eighty-eight students from 22 countries were admitted into the Fall 2009 intake, all on full scholarships.

The Institute offers MSc programs, and in fall 2010 is planning to start PhD programs in science and engineering disciplines, with a focus on advanced energy and sustainable technologies. It welcomes and encourages applications from qualified students and provides scholarships to talented students who meet its high admission standards.

Students accepted into the Masdar Institute will be offered a full scholarship which includes the following:

• 100% tuition fee scholarship
• Textbooks
• Laptop
• Medical Insurance
• Housing
• International students will receive reimbursement of travel expenses (economy class air-ticket) into Abu Dhabi and back home after completion of studies. Travel expenses (return economy class air-ticket) back to the student’s home country at the end of the 1st year of studies will also be reimbursed.
• Reimbursement of TOEFL and GRE exam fees (upon registration at Masdar Institute and submission of original receipts)
• A competitive stipend per month (cost of living allowance).
• No bond or conditions to the scholarship upon graduation

King Saud University Riyadh – Saudi Arabia -, insyaallah akan
mengadakan muqabalah untuk Program Pascasarjana ( Magister dan Doctoral ) khusus untuk studi keislaman, yang meliputi takhassus
berikut ini:

1. Fiqh dan Ushul Fiqh
2. Tafsir Hadits
3. Aqidah dan Mazahib Mu’ashirah.

Pelaksaan muqabalahnya Insyaallah pada minggu terakhir sya’ban atau
minggu pertama bulan Ramadhan 1430 H.

Persyaratan untuk mengikuti muqabalah :

1. Mahasiswa ( laki-laki ) yang sudah lulus S1 untuk Magister, dan
lulus S2 untuk Doctoral ( baik dalam maupun luar negri )
2. Pendidikan terakhir berlatar belakang agama ( seperti Syariah,
Ushuluddin, Tafsir, dsb, kalau pendidikan terakhir adalah lughah
mungkin gak diizinkan ikut muqabalahnya)
3. Hafalan Al-Qur’an ( 5 juz untuk program S2 dan 10 juz untuk S3,
hafalannya gak mesti berurutan, boleh mulai hafalan dari belakang
ataupun dari depan, yang penting untuk tiap juznya full, jangan
setengah-setengah juz )
4. Nilai IPK terakhir minimal JAYYID JIDDAN ( dan diprioritaskan yang
mendapat MUMTAZ atau MUMTAZ MURTAFI’ ).
5. Menguasai Bahasa Arab secara aktif ( lisan dan tulisan ).
6. Prioritas untuk mereka yang punya aktifitas dakwah di masyarakat,
sekolah ataupun yayasan.

KAUST will offer Discovery Scholarships to all KAUST students – an exceptional level of support intended to attract gifted and talented students from Saudi Arabia and from other countries around the world.

KAUST will offer a pre-enrollment version of this general scholarship program to students attending first-university or bachelor’s degree programs. KAUST will provide financial support to pre-enrollment Discovery Scholarship recipients at their home institutions prior to the University’s opening. Upon graduation, these students will enter KAUST as master’s degree students in September 2009 and 2010 to complete their graduate studies on a fully funded scholarship.

Recipients of the KAUST Discovery Scholarship represent future leaders in science, engineering and technology.

Students may apply for a KAUST Discovery Scholarship directly, or they may be nominated by a professor at their institution.
