Course description:
Successful management of the innovation process is essential for any business wanting to stay ahead of the competition.
The 2-year MSc in Global Innovation Management (GIM) will equip students with the skills needed to transform research outputs into innovative products and services for worldwide markets. It also provides a unique opportunity to test these skills internationally as part of the study programme.

GIM addresses new challenges in innovative global enterprise and provides:

• A practical and global perspective of Innovation Management
• Skills applicable for larger multinational organisations to smaller enterprises
• Expanded perspectives of Innovation Management including Technology Management, R&D, and Product/Service Development with focus on the interface between disciplines involved in the process;
• Increased research capability focused on activities at the periphery of the innovation process.
• All students take a common first year at the University of Strathclyde, then choose either to deepen study at Hamburg University of Technology (Germany), or to apply skills and knowledge in an industrial internship at Aalborg University (Denmark).

The course is structured as follows:

• Semesters 1 and 2 (Year One) provides a strong foundation in the Innovation Management process, with essential practical experience of working within global teams and with an industrial client on product/service development briefs. Strategic technology management, manufacturing business strategy and supply chain
• management are also a central focus.
• Semester 3 at Hamburg looks at early and late phases of the innovation management process. It concentrates on market research for (radical) innovation, cross functional cooperation at the front end of the innovation process, managing innovation projects over geographical and functional/divisional boarders and preparing the market introduction of new products and services.
• Semester 3 at Aalborg is an industrial internship providing the students with global innovation management work experience consolidating the knowledge and skills obtained at Strathclyde. Students will deliver a relevant and theoretically supported project to the host Danish company.
• In Semester 4 all students take a thesis project supervised jointly between academics at the host institution and another partner institution.

The programme is delivered in English and intended for excellent graduates of first degrees in Engineering, Science and Technology. The MSc award is made jointly by the University of Strathclyde and the secondyear institution. Graduates, supported by a network of valuable contacts, enter the international employment
market working:

• With enterprises dealing with high end technological products and services
• as consultants making technology assessment and innovation /change management
• with governmental institutes dealing with innovation policy and strategy
• with relevant research and higher education institutions.

Criteria for Category A (non-European) Students

Eligibility

Applicants of BioHealth Computing Erasmus Mundus category A student scholarships should qualify as third-country nationals, as defined in the Erasmus Mundus programme, i.e., nationals of all countries of the world with the exception of the Erasmus Mundus eligible applicant countries: the 27 EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom), the EEA-EFTA States (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway). Additional BioHealth Computing Erasmus Mundus Category A student scholarships will be assigned to students from the “Western Balkans and Turkey Window”, i.e. nationals of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244/99, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey.

The following restrictions apply:

• Applicants are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of Erasmus Mundus eligible applicant countries above.
• Students can apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship to the EMMCs of their choice but the number of applications must be limited to maximum three courses.
• Individuals who have already benefited from an EMMC scholarship are not eligible for a second scholarship in order to follow the same or another EMMC.
• Students benefiting from an EMMC scholarship cannot benefit from another Community grant while pursuing their Erasmus Mundus masters studies.
• EMMC students’ scholarships are awarded exclusively for a full-time enrolment in one of the course editions.

MERIT is a multi-track research oriented Master programme within the guidelines of the Bologna process whose scope is Information and Communication Technologies. MERIT is a European 2-year post-graduate programme taught in English at the following institutions:

• Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), formerly University of Karlsruhe, Germany

MERIT Erasmus Mundus Category A student scholarships are addressed for highly qualified non-European students willing to study the MERIT programme in two of the above institutions beginning September 2011. The number of MERIT Erasmus Mundus Category A student scholarships for the MERIT course 2011-2013 has not yet been determined.

Additional Category A student scholarships for students under the Western Balkans and Turkey Window will also be granted. The MERIT academic program is organized in 3 Areas of Knowledge and their corresponding 9 Specialisation tracks which can be studied in any two of the institutions indicated below:

Students applying for the MERIT Erasmus Mundus student scholarships must include up to 4 specialization options which can be:

• Any of the 9 specialization tracks.
• Any of the 3 AoK.
• Indifferent.

In addition, students should also indicate which university they prefer, if any, for the second year of studies.

UNESCO/Japan Young Researchers’ Fellowship Programme) funded under the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for the capacity-building of Human Resources will aim, in particular, to impact on capacity-building and research activities in the following areas:

• Environment (with particular attention to Water Sciences);

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants, a maximum of TWO from each applying National Commission, must meet the following general criteria:

1. Candidates under this Programme must be post-graduate researchers, already holding either an M.A. or MSc. degree (or equivalent) and wishing to pursue research work abroad (preferably in their own region) with a view to enhancing knowledge in one of the four specific fields mentioned in paragraph 0.1 below. Thus, those who are in the process of completing their Master’s degree must have completed it PRIOR to taking up their Fellowship.

2. Candidates must be persons of high intellectual promise who may be expected to make significant contributions to their country on return.

3. Candidates must be no more than 40 years of age. Thus, applicants born before 1 January 1971 will not be considered under the Programme.

4. The selected Fellow must carry out the research under the auspices of an academic supervisor in a host institution. Confirmation of acceptance from the academic supervisor is imperative.

5. Priority attention will be given to:

• Women candidatures
• Candidates from least developed countries (LDCs)
• Palestinian researchers

6. Candidates must be proficient in reading and writing the language of instruction in the proposed country of study/research.

7. Applicants must be in good health (both physically and mentally).

Applications are now accepted for AstroMundus, a 2years international Master Course in Astronomy and Astrophysics offered by a partnership of 5 universities: University of Innsbruck (Austria), University of Padova and University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (Italy), University of Goettingen (Germany), and University of Belgrade (Serbia). The Master Course is funded by the European Commission within the Erasmus Mundus programme, 2nd Edition, Action 1.

The course is open to students of all nationalities. Admitted students will conduct their studies in at least 2 and up to 4 of the partner Universities and, upon successful completion of their studies, they will be awarded a Joint Master Degree by all universities where they studied during the Master Course. The course is held in the English language, however students will have the possibility to learn the language of the host countries through courses offered by the host universities. Eligible students have a certified good knowledge of the English Language and hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, or Mathematics, or an equivalent amount of certified learning (3 years, 180 ECTS credits) in the same field(s). A number of Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available both for non-European and European students. The admission to the Master Course and assignment of scholarships are based on excellence.

Deadline for applications: November 30th 2010 for both Non-European and European students. The Master Course starts in September 2011.

Ford Foundation The International Fellowships Program was launched with a grant from the Ford Foundation in 2001. The program offers fellowships for post-graduate study to leaders from underserved communities in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Russia.
